EU Steps up on Mental Health

In recent years, the European Commission (EC) has taken a more active role in healthcare, an area traditionally managed by individual member states. This shift was accelerated by the profound impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing war in Ukraine, highlighting the need for a coordinated EU-wide approach to health challenges, including mental health.

To ensure sustained progress, the EU must adopt best practices from regional leaders like the Czech Republic and the Netherlands while drawing insights from faster-moving countries such as the U.S., U.K., and Australia. Engaging investors and healthcare providers in meaningful discussions will be essential to drive innovation and practical implementation. Additionally, promoting studies on cost-effectiveness and involving healthcare payers will be critical to building a sustainable and impactful mental health framework across Europe.

From Collaboration to

Transformation

PsychedelicsEurope navigates biopharmaceutical companies that are developing novel therapies to address unmet needs of patients with mental health conditions. By collaborating with stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem, PsychedelicsEurope aims to ensure that breakthrough therapies reach those in need, helping to shape the future of mental health care.

Collaboration between scientific research and industry is driving major advancements in mental health care, particularly in the U.S., U.K., and Australia. The rise of ketamine clinics highlights this growing momentum. However, challenges remain, such as a lack of regulatory frameworks, limited engagement with authorities, and no clear strategies for integrating these therapies into national healthcare systems.

In multi-level, mutually interconnected governance, the EU needs active Member States and their best practices to catalyze discussion in Brussels. PsychedelicsEurope is actively addressing these challenges by delivering targeted, strategic solutions.
